Reply with quote | #1 | Anyone use or own a Mystery Ranch pack? Looking specifically at the CrewCab or 6500. They're pricey, but supposed to be great packs. I'm getting my grubby paws on one in the next few weeks to take home and load up with my gear to see how it feels.
Thanks in advance.

Yep, i've never heard a complaint about MR packs......i'm sending my 4500 back to BL's to get some work done on it; the waist belt needs to be shortened and i'm gonna 'customize' some other spots. If that doesn't get it to where i need it to be, it'll be up for sale. __________________ Save Thanksgiving, don't shoot the turkeys! |

It is different. But very well designed. __________________ "Designed To Hunt" |

Reply with quote | #7 | Been doing a bit more research lately on some high end packs. I'm narrowing it down to Kifaru and Mystery Ranch. I've just never heard a bad thing about either of them. I love my 2200, but some horror stories I've heard about the 4500 is making me shy away from the bigger Badlands. The new OX from Badlands looks interesting, but the outside metal framing of it turns me off. Too many chances for making noise by the looks of it. __________________ “The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly"-Thomas Paine

Teh metal frame breaks down when you are not actually packing something out with it. The frame weighs like 1 pound or something close to that. __________________ "Designed To Hunt" |

Reply with quote | #9 | Does it also have an internal frame? How would it perform carrying 30-40 pounds all day on a bivy hunt, in your opinion? __________________ “The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly"-Thomas Paine

Jerod, i've been researching new packs and the MR packs seen to be the ticket. Shay uses a Kirafu and it's bomber tough, but there's a lack of pockets in the bags...just one giant stuff sack, i prefer a few more places to stash gear. A buddy just bought the CrewCab and i'll be taking it home soon to see how it holds my gear, i'll give ya a call with my thoughts on it....i'd have to sell a kidney on Craigs List to pay for it.
My bet is the OX isn't well received and the external metal bar becomes more of an issue than an asset. But that's just from first impressions.

Reply with quote | #11 | For sure let me know what you think of the MR, Kirk. I've personally heard nothing but good things.
Yeah, just seeing pics of the OX and I agree, looks like there will be issues with that metal. __________________ “The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly"-Thomas Paine

Reply with quote | #12 | I am in the same search-mode! I plan on going to the store in June and trying them out first-hand, maybe take one back on the plane with me.
I also like the way it carries the meat. It sinches between the frame and the pack. This keeps better weight distribution, keeps it from moving and keeps blood off your items. __________________ “Shorth is better than length.”

What store are you seeing the MR packs at? I'd really like to get my hands on one of them. Anybody know of dealers in the Midwest? Or do you have to order straight from the factory as with Kifaru? __________________ “The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. Reply with quote | #14 | It is their physical location in MT as they do not have dealers or resellers. When I have talked to the guys over there, they seem to be very customer oriented! They even recommended that I bring all of my gear to the store, so that they could assist in getting the right pack for my needs and how to load it properly.
Who else has offered that?

Reply with quote | #15 | They'll also let you order one and check it our for yourself, then if you don't like it, they'll give ya a full refund.
Just chatted w/ my buddy last night that got the crewcab, so far he's really liking it and has loaded all his gear in it......he says 'it's a keeper'. __________________ Save Thanksgiving, don't shoot the turkeys! |
